The importance of living a healthy lifestyle to maintain good health and prevent chronic diseases is well established. A healthy lifestyle is easy to achieve – one does not have to do anything “crazy” to live a healthy life. I would say that a certain amount of independent thinking is needed to separate reality from the myth in many of today’s health advice that is being presented.
The most important thing you can do is eat well. Avoid poisoning your food as much as possible and eat lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and whole grains; moderate exercise a few times a week; avoid smoking, including cigarette smoke; and avoid excessive weight gain (which should come naturally if you eat well and exercise). Although it is not always possible to eat all organic foods – EWG recommends 12 fruits and vegetables that should be organic due to the high levels of pesticide residues. Avoiding environmental toxins as much as possible is an important part of achieving a healthy lifestyle.
Our modern way of life is very simple – but it can also be extremely healthy. Most of us eat a lot of processed foods and very few fruits and vegetables; we are not accustomed to exercising; and when we have chronic conditions like diabetes, we rely on generic medicines to make us feel better – but these drugs often have the worst side effects. Instead of accepting the importance of healthy living for ourselves and future generations, we continue with our bad habits – and then take stronger, more toxic drugs to treat our inevitable symptoms.
Of course, not all aspects of a healthy lifestyle are in our hands. We will be exposed to certain environmental toxins whether we like it or not. But most of these things are completely out of our control. Whenever we can, we must take responsibility and make the right decisions.
That is why it is so important to make sure that you eat well and that you are responsible for a healthy lifestyle.
I say “lifestyle” because I know that “eating well” can sometimes be something a person does with anger because they feel that “self-sacrifice” is necessary to make a healthy lifestyle.
I remember when people who ate small meals used to make fun of me and say I was not really healthy because I chose not to eat pizza and drink beer – and I always replied “how much better would you be if your body recovered from what you put it on?”
Going from unhealthy to a healthy lifestyle
The reason I discussed the healthy lifestyle tip of simply EATING WELL on my blog is because it worked well in my life.
This was not always the case though. I remember being addicted to chocolate each day and suffering from headaches or infections or some other ailment.
In addition to craving for sugar (eating a chocolate bar each day) I also had many unhealthy symptoms that were difficult to treat with traditional medicine: Frequent headaches, skin problems (e.g., weak or broken hair and nails, Fatigue and irritability, Excessive stress, Candida, Infection, Infection, Infection Eating or Natural Disorders, Anxiety or Depression, Diarrhea, Constipation, Memory Loss, Mood Disorders, Common Infections or Infections, PMS or Serious Menstrual Cramps, Bladder Infections, Loss of Sex … etc.
Ughhh! It’s not fun at all!
Years later, I LOVE good food and I don’t get sick often. Eating right is a good way to keep up with your body and return to the basics of what your body needs. It challenges you to break free from the habit of taking it for granted, to break free from your addictions and to start over. Eating well is a healthy lifestyle that gives you clarity about what your body needs, not cravings and is the foundation of all other healthy lifestyles.
The important thing to remember about healthy eating is to really examine your root philosophy of changing the healthiest diet in your life.
This is VERY IMPORTANT!
If you just lose a few pounds – I personally feel that this is not enough with the stimulus and you will set yourself up for “failure” but, if you choose to eat well to enjoy a better life, do things I have not done for years and no longer get sick, then this is a good motivator
So, to get a really effective, healthy diet obviously involves a few changes to a diet that you prepare and enjoy.
I always listen to my body when I eat. I don’t count calories, I don’t measure my fist, I use a scale or anything that makes me isolate myself and make the food I eat.
The main reason I enjoy good health is that I criticize what I eat – I choose to eat REAL food.
Because of this, I do not need expensive supplements or challenging programs to maintain my weight.
Delicious real, complete food menus allow me to enjoy the things many food programs warn of.
This sounds simple enough, but what I have learned is that most people simply do not know what a healthy lifestyle entails, especially when it comes to food!
I try to keep things as simple as possible. I shop from the edge of the store, I eat a lot of wild and free chicken, very little meat and especially raw fruits and vegetables, beans and rice. It doesn’t work to write down everything I eat here, but feel free to visit my blog and download your FREE LIVING LIST while you’re here!
