I’m back in photography. Visual communication is my strength; words do not always come easily to me. Although I did not present myself as a writer, I was always a traveler. From a young age, I was given the opportunity to visit. I spent many hours on family trips and vacations in what seemed to be, at the time, remote places. I discovered my first taste of tropical Hawaii and learned about ancient societies in Mexico. This experience centered on my psyche. However, at some point, my life revolved around the common problems of ‘adults’ we all know: jobs, debts and debt that don’t leave time to travel.
I’m not rich (unfortunately). I have not won the lottery. I have a job that takes me to work in the far north of Canada. I do construction work for a few weeks, without leaving the camp. These days and weeks separately are hard and tedious, often separated only by a few days of rest at home; or worse – resigning.
It was a long break from work, over the years, that renewed my love of travel. I was fired from my job, and I bought a motorcycle for a trip from Canada to Panama and back. A rebellious day dealing with broken tires, sharp cultural agents and a foreign language all while I was able to end the day with a smile reinforces the fact that walking will always be an important part of my life.
In that first extended trip I learned a lot about myself. I always kept magazines for my travel experience, writing highs and lows throughout the trip. I think it has helped to reveal my priorities and interests in life.
While postponing a much-needed yard work one day, I was reading one of these magazines. I was literally flipping through the pages of my experience. While reading my own words I was immediately transferred to the sound of my journey through Central America.
The feeling of perseverance lasted for many days. I couldn’t get those pictures out of my head. I had a biting foot bump. My wanderlust was alive and well! The pressure was so great that I even promised myself at the time: to make tourism the most important thing in my life again.
I’m not a writer, so why blog? Commitment to me that makes me accountable. It is the home of my travel stories. Ups, Downs and everything in between. I will share photos, video and news from places I visit and cultures I explore. I will post tips & tips to help you get better and / or cheaper and fortunately encourage you to pull out your passport and travel more often.
I want this blog to inspire you, inform you and add fuel to your journey. I hope you will join me in this adventure!
