I never thought I would fall so hard in the city. While packing my bags to visit a friend in Toronto, I was excited to visit him, but, exploring the city of Toronto, I was at least lukewarm. Oh my I would have been wrong – it was hard to leave!
Toronto is 100 percent lower. I would probably love it better than New York. Let me try to explain why you should choose Toronto as your next destination (and then take me with you).
1. Toronto
The first thing I always see when I visit abroad is the warmth of connecting with the local people. The Toronto people, as the people of Toronto are called, are collectively, very friendly, polite and kind. They have a warm feeling about them that makes you feel at home right away. Besides, since one in two Toronto-borns are born abroad, the diversity of the city is amazing! You will come to know many cultures and people from all over the world.
Pro tip: Try starting a conversation with anyone at the bar or simply asking for directions. You will be amazed at how happy people are to talk or help.
2. Food
For me, the hardest part about spending time in Toronto was choosing what to eat. Surprisingly, the city’s restaurant reflects its cultural and ethnic diversity. How do you feel today? Indian? Chinese? Greek? What about a huge bunch of French fries, cheese cakes, and gravy? Poutine may have originated in the French-Canadian province of Quebec, but, as an unofficial Canadian national dish, it is also popular in Toronto.
Pro tip: Not sure about Poutine yet? Wait until 3 in the morning. Not only is it delicious but you will also find many restaurants to serve in the evening.
3. Sports galore
For any unusual sport, Toronto is a dream come true. There is a team made for the whole season! In addition, games are actually expensive. Watch the famous Maple Leafs take the snow, catch a Raptors ’NBA basketball game, or spend an afternoon watching baseball at the Blue Jays Stadium. In any case, you can’t go wrong.
Pro tip: Hockey is a very popular sport in Canada, so Maple Leafs tickets can be a little more expensive. If you’re looking for a fun and inexpensive alternative, check out Raptors.
4. Open spaces
Toronto is full of green spaces. There are parks in almost every corner and many of the streets are covered with large, leafy trees in the spring and summer.
Pro Tip: The old city of Toronto is my favorite part of town. It is packed with large parks where you can sit all afternoon.
5. Movies
Have you ever watched a series of Suits? Movie Mean Girls? What about Incredible Hulk or Hairspray? Want to know what all those products have in common? Guess: recorded in Toronto. When you see scenes from a movie or your favorite game, it makes walking around town feel like you’re on stage.
Pro tip: Before you go, check out our article on all Toronto movie sites.
6. Cleanliness
Often there is a direct connection between the size of the city and how dirty it is. Yes, Toronto is against tradition and it was actually the cleanest city I have ever been to. And, while I haven’t been to Vancouver yet, I might even go out on foot and say it’s the cleanest city in Canada.
Pro tip: Don’t throw it away.
7. Culture
All-night dancing, all-day sports, festivals, concerts… Toronto is an endless association of good cultural activities.
Pro Tip: If you like coffee and board games, check out Snakes and Latte.
8. The road is moving
One of Toronto’s biggest jokes is how to get out of Toronto. Yes, that is true, but with a little dedication, time, and renting, you can find truly cool wines, cottages, waterfalls, and beautiful cities within just a few hours of driving.
Pro tip: Want a day trip? Go explore Niagara Falls, and end your day with a walk around the beautiful city of Hamilton.
9. Art and famous artists
Aside from being a place where big movies are made, Toronto is also a city where great artists are made. My favorite is Mr. Drake!
Most Toronto people love Drake and what he has done to promote the city. You even opened The Drake Hotel – don’t forget to watch it.
Pro tip: Drake rarely misses the Raptors game. Time to check out some basketball!
10. Not too many guests
Unlike other major North American cities, Toronto has a surprisingly low rate of tourists. Or maybe the city is too big for you to notice. Coming from Barcelona that was so amazing!
Pro tip: Do all the touring stuff. Without crowds, you will actually be able to enjoy it in T-town!
